Fine if you just need a base for a couple of days and don't mind the spooky atmosphere, but think I'll try the Roosevelt next time.if I ever return, as Hollywood was something of a disappointment, aside from the Pig and Whistle restaurant which was fab. We were making each other jumpy enough and then we found the room number where Janis Joplin died.and could hear strange noises through the door.this was really unnerving and spooked us for the whole of our stay!!! The combination of this, the quietness of the hotel and the old fashioned decor really gave me the creeps and I don't think I could stay there again. We only used the hotel as a base and it was an excellent location, although as two young women we did feel a little nervous walking back up the road from Hollywood Boulevard late at night as there were lots of homeless people about. Again it was a bit dated- I'd say probably decorated around 10yrs ago, which is practically new compared to the rest of the hotel. ![]() For some this may be appealing, and I must admit it gives the place a certain charm, but it's not what I like in a hotel! After we had struggled up the stairs with our cases, we found our room and were pleasantly suprised - it was clean and farly large. The lobby isn't much better to be honest - I don't think the hotel has been decorated since the sixties and it shows. When we first arrived I got a shock - the outside is so dated, run down and shabby.I was expecting better but had been advised that Hollywood hotels can be dodgy as it's not such a great area. We booked this hotel through Expedia, purely for it's location - it's only a couple of blocks away from Hollywood Boulevard and the Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre etc. We were making each other jumpy enough and then we found the room number where Janis Joplin died.and could hear strange noises through the door.this was really unnerving and. ![]() ![]()
